Welcome to Cartersville, Georgia!
CARTERSVILLE is located just 43 miles North of Atlanta. Within commuting distance of Atlanta, Cartersville offers easy living, quaint and convenient, where there’s room to breath, grow and live.
Nestled in the foothills of the Northern Georgia Mountains, lies the historic, yet modern, town of Cartersville, named in honor of Colonel Farish Carter, one of Georgia’s wealthiest antebellum landowners. Incorporated in 1854, Cartersville was destroyed during the Civil War, and rose again to be incorporated in 1872.
Cartersville’s place in history is well documented. The city is the site of the Etowah Indian Mounds Historic Site. This is most intact Mississippian Culture site in the Southeastern United States, dating back to between 1000-1500 A.D. and is located in the heart of the City. The historic district includes the Grand Theatre, the Booth Western Art Museum, and the Bartow History Center. The Grand Theatre, or “Grand” as it’s known, is the cultural centerpiece of the area. The Grand opened in 1910 and is still used today for musicals, plays, dance performances, concerts and civic events. The Booth Western Art Museum is 80,000 square feet of art for the senses, including Presidential letters and portraits. The Bartow History Center offers patrons hands-on exhibits, as well as fascinating lectures, workshops and programs.
While we do honor our history, we have room for modern conveniences as well. Just outside the historic district, you will find your favorite retail stores, shopping centers and well known local and chain restaurant options.
Cartersville is located on the Etowah River with Lake Allatoona nearby. Lake Allatoona covers 12,000 acres with numerous areas for picnicking, camping, boating, fishing, and swimming. Red Top Mountain State Park is on a peninsula of Lake Allatoona. The park has a lodge, conference center, restaurant, golf course, camping sites, rental cottages, tennis courts, and hiking trails.
